At the farm

May 2, 2010 - We have met a family here who left The Netherlands several years ago. And although they weren't farmers, they bought a farm here, purely for the space, the quietness and nature.

We had met them on several occasions already, but never got to visit each other. When we were looking for a bike for Cisco, the called us that they had a lot of bikes on their farm and that we could pick one if it would fit him. Which meant we had a reason to schedule a get together as well.

They live in the area of Minnedosa at a farm with lots of acres around it. And because they have plenty of room, keeping animals has grown into a hobby. The first couple of hours were spent talking, then we had supper and then it was time to feed the animals. And despite the fact that the weather didn't cooperate, our boys really enjoyed being on a farm. For a moment it looked as if winter had returned, so cold as it was and at some point it even snowed for a bit. But, that couldn't stop us from enjoying to feed the goats, the horses and all the other animals. Because haulin' hay with a pickup, watch the goats jump up when you bring them food and pet the horses when the're wet and damp from the cold, gives you this sense of history. It's special to work around animals and the smell and the atmosphere of the farm only strenghtens that. Mmmh, this could be something for us once we're in the position to find a place of our own. Awesome.

We chatted for a bit, then loaded up the bike and returned home feeling great. Everybody knows that a combination of kids and animals always works out to be fun, but this time we also enjoyed this special occasion ourselves.
